A Transit system that grows…
with two to three times the current farebox income
People want to get places, to many places, and they want to get there fast. Right now, you can only find that in the largest of cities where there are enough people to create the demand for transit that goes far and fast. Someone has to pay for a growing transit network.
Transit Delivery adds demand throughout the day, throughout the city and suburbs. That added demand is the key to ever more frequent transit service, a system paid for with new customers whose packages don’t “mind” moving at night.
A Carbon Negative Delivery system
Most consumer goods can be delivered without adding to the planet’s huge carbon problem. At All! It’s not just that deliveries can be moved by all-electric Light Rail Vehicles. It’s not just that they can be moved by an electric-assist cargo bike. Transit Delivery does that for sure, but it also builds out the transit system to a higher quality, with greater frequency. Transit Delivery will attract more commuters. Yes, there will be less trucks on the road, but less cars too. It is a carbon negative system.
Building more bike routes
Economics 101. It’s so very basic. Wherever you see demand supply follows. Moving massive numbers of packages can be moved with train cars that are often quite empty at night and trains are the most efficient of all land transportation vehicles. That flow can continue on bike paths and routes that are also typically empty at night. Extra funds come from that ever-growing demand for e-commerce, and they should be a user fee for using the transit and bike systems. Those funds pave the way leading to expanded transit (see above) but also fund to build out new and better bike paths and routes .It’s a trade off with normal people traffic all day and packages traffic at night.
City Planners have long known that a “world class” city will have a great transit system. More and more that means having a great bike and pedestrian systems as well.
Building New Infrastructure
and maintaining what we already have.
Tulips Transit Delivery is the opportunity to move millions of pounds of packages off the road and onto rail where the weight is easily handled. What is more important is the opportunity to move tens of millions of pounds of trucks off the road.
You really are not expected to know this. Trucking companies know it. All departments of transportation know it, whether State or City or Country. Roads breakdown due to heavy trucks. That’s why trucks have weight restrictions for bridges and roads - because they are ones doing most all of the damage.
Take a look at the many delivery trucks in your neighborhood, especially the ones with four tires in the back to hold the extra weight. They are gradually but surely wearing down our streets. We’re not only paying for the diesel exhaust, We are paying with the extra congestion. But you probably didn’t know that we are paying for the roads that are not build for this kind of wear and tear.
Health Benefits from Transit Delivery by:
Avoiding diesel exhaust which “can lead to serious health conditions like asthma and respiratory illnesses and can worsen heart and lung disease, especially in children and the elderly” (source epa.gov)
Adding more bike routes and making it easier for people to get around and get exercise…. and fresh air.
Added Safety and Security
It may seem contradictory to state that having autonomous vehicles moving around a transit station could ADD to safe and secure travel. Autonomous vehicles are equipped with cameras and sensors that, under some circumstances (yelling, pushing, etc.), could provide surveillance to discourage violence.
